Episode 55: A Line in the Sand
NH State Rep Dan Itse joins Denis for a discussion of HCR6, a resolution which sets a "line in the sand" which, if crossed, would cause New Hampshire to consider the Federal Government to have nullified the US Constitution. These include enacting martial law without due process, or enactment of mandatory "national service" without a fully declared war.

Let's discuss ways of making this a major movement among these United States. As the Canadian poster has commented, perhaps the provinces of Canada would like to join us once our essential constitutional principles are understood again.
It is a huge educational challenge. People have become so accustomed to a less-informed status quo, that returning to our foundational principles of government will seem a frighteningly radical change, yet if we to survive, we must reclaim them. Let's push forward.

If this is going to work
South Carolina already attempted nullification in November 1832. They even begin preparing themselves militarily to deal with the federal response. In the end the feds effectively back down in addition to threatening to uses force against South Carolina.
So to be frank I'm not sure who won, both sides seem to have gotten there way.
With respect to the changes this bill and other similar bills in other State legislators across the union are demanding of the feds, I can’t see the federal government backing down in the way required.
It would mean the utter impossibility of the political ambitions of the elected people currently controlling the federal government.
Their lust for power and ambition for control over the lives of our people will demand they do everything with in their power to appose this nullification.
How can the State of New Hampshire possibly expect to fight federal oppression alone?
We need the military to defect from federal orders, tell them that it is illegal for them to enforce federal will upon the people and State of the United States.
Tell them that it is their duty to up hold the Constitution first and foremost, not to aid in the Constitution’s usurpation in support of the un-Constitutional Federal power.
New Hampshire is clearly on the right course to reach out for support from other States but that need to happen before New Hampshire makes its stand. New Hampshire is not strong enough to stand up to the Federal Government alone, and stand up to them she will have to!
We need the forces of as many States as possible behind this, on top of convening as much of the military as possible to defect and do their duty in upholding the United States Constitution.
Don’t kid yourself unless we get at least 33 States in support this will come down to an equation of cost, and the price of Liberty and Constitutionalism will be very high.
If we can get 33 or more States in support we have the alternative option of calling a Constitutional convention and clarifying theses power as belonging to the states and people. If that is not possible to work then the only option left is the subjected one which could possibly lead to a 2nd American revolutionary War.
Tread carefully and be sure that the odds are stacked on the side of Liberty and Peace.
There is no way to do this without a large number of jointly committed States across the union.
War for Southern Independence
What you state has already been done, this would be the 3rd try at Independence by a people that wished to throw off an unjust and out of control governance.Remember the Confederacy, this has all been done before and you would know this if y'all really considered history in its true context.

Is anyone out there?

Hello New Hampshire,
I'm a Canadian neighbor from Quebec, I really enjoy your positions and approach to the whole situation. I have this website discussing a potential democratic union of Canada to the USA. As you may know, human nature is the same everywhere, and the federal government in Canada has also followed that invariable trend towards attracting more power to itself, so the situation you are experiencing in America exists to a lesser degree in Canada as well.
Might this not be an opportunity to revisit the potential for a new continental congress, to discuss a new union built around those Jeffersonian principles which you discuss in this episode? This time Canada is ready.
In any case, should the State of New Hampshire, along with sister states of American Union, should ever come to consider the general government dissolved because of it's failure to respect it's constitutional contract with the States and their peoples, I believe that this would represent a tremendous opportunity for Canadian provinces to also rise to the challenge, and offer their own sympathy and solidarity with you guys.
In this regard, is it possible to perhaps add a reference in your bill, to the possibility of allowing Canadian provinces to join discussions of such a rejuvenated Union? We understand the principles that have made America great. We understand how straying from the application of those principles has hurt the republic, and we have our own examples within the Canadian federation.
Clearly, if America is to repair itself, Canada would be interested in playing it's part, so that this time around, we may actually succeed and end up forming an enlarged union, that includes Canada, should the peoples of America and Canada will it.
I'd really love to discuss this in greater details if you are interested, so that your bill can reach the attention of my own representatives here in Quebec, and also reach the attention of representatives of each and all provinces of Canada.
Best regards,

Quebec?
Why would we believe that a Province that has perfected political extortion by using language to extract wealth from English Canada and then oppress minorities within its borders with a shameful policy of language discrimination would be a good thing for the USA? Your language police will never fit our Constitution and respect for freedoms and we don't believe in banning people who dissent with out views.
From MA and I envy NH
I live in MA and I envy the residents of NH to have a representative like you. I am discussing the possibility with my family of moving to the Granite State. My libertarian principles would fit well with many of the residents there.
Thank you!

Yes, Rep. Dan, one of the North Carolina Citizens Militia forum posters has brought your bill to our attention on the website www.ncmilitia.org
All I can say is BRAVO! Finally someone has the stones to try to halt the intrusion of the Federal Government into areas in which they have NO Constitutional basis.
I am passing this along to my North Carolina State Representative and Senator with the hope they will get something started.
